Can't argue with that. And, yes, we might never have seen another film were it not for the 25th anniversary of the show in '91 but as I said that was all mostly Paramount's fault for pinching pennies with the film in the first place. Like I said, if they didn't like the story (and it was a Roddenberry Special) they should have just told Shatner and co. to come up with something else.

My main problem with Star Trek V is that it damaged the credibility of the TOS series & cast. At the time this movie came out, TNG had been on the air for a couple of seasons, and while the show had gotten off to a weak start, it had still already established itself as a legitamate peice of serious science fiction. I was in high school at the time, and many of my friends loved TNG but didn't like TOS (I was the exact opposite) because they couldn't see past TOS's crude special effects. I would try to teel them that they had to take the visuals with a grain of salt (late 60's TV technology, after all) & look past the visuals at the writing & ideas, the philosophy of the show. When ST V came out, it simply re-inforced a lot of the younger TNG fans' pre-conceived notions of Shatner & co. I have read more than one interview saying that Paramount was actually resistant to using the original cast in any more films after that; thank god for ST VI (which one of my friends at the time said should have been subtitled "The Apology" lol).

Yeah, it had its moments and wasn't as bad as all the critics say. But, I admit, it wasn't the greatest Trek story, by far.
