Ratings Results Update: Lost Goes Out with a Bang, Chuck with a Whimper
By John J. Joex
Lost is gone now and a lot of viewers showed up to see it off. The series finale averaged a 5.8 rating in the 18-49 demo and 13.5 million viewers across its two and a half hours. Those are the best numbers that the show has seen since its season finale back in 2007, though they definitely fall short of the 18 million viewers that Lost averaged during its first couple of seasons. Still, that’s pretty good for a heavily serialized show that has run for six seasons. The recap/interview special that ran for two hours prior to the finale averaged a 4.0 rating, which is pretty darn good for an extended retread episode.
The two-hour season finale for Chuck did not have as much success as the more widely followed Lost, though. In fact Chuck hit series low with its third season swansong. It averaged only a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demo across the two hours and just over 5 million viewers. It did have some pretty serious competition from several other finales on the other networks as well as Dancing with the Stars and the series premiere of The Bachelorette on ABC. And I would expect the show to make up for some of those losses when the DVR numbers come in. Still it does not bode well for Chuck going into next season, but then this show seems to thrive by living on the edge.
