It was the weekend just before the beginning of the Summer Blockbuster season, so it was rather slow as far as Box Office activity goes. The animated comedy The Pirates! Band of Misfits, from Aardman Animations, did manage to grab the Number 2 slot in its debut at the domestic Box Office and an estimated $11.4 million tally. That film has already been playing well internationally and has a $75 million gross worldwide. Not so fortunate was the horror/mystery film The Raven, in which Edgar Allen Poe pursues a serial killer, which only climbed to the Number 7 slot in its debut with an estimated tally of $7.3 million domestically. Expect the Box Office to explode next weekend, though, as The Avengers debuts here in the states. That film has already hit theaters internationally and broken many records there and the advance sales of domestic tickets are setting records as well.
